Report: Tomiyasu to have his Arsenal medical in Italy
Takehiro Tomiyasu will have a medical in Italy over an Arsenal transfer, as reported by the Telegraph.
What’s the story?
According to the publication, a deal to sign the defender is 90% complete.
Arsenal will allegedly fly out a doctor from the medical department to oversee proceedings.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed a deal will be worth €23m (£20m) with a €20m initial fee and €3m in add-ons.
Tomiyasu was allegedly attracting interest from Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the summer.
The Lilywhites struggled to agree on terms of payment with Bologna for the defender. As a result, Spurs moved on to other targets and are closing in on a move for Barcelona’s Emerson Royal.
Tomiyasu would be a smart acquisition
Tomiyasu is an extremely savvy acquisition for Arsenal amid talk of a medical.
The player is a versatile figure and is able to feature at both right-back and centre-back.
While, at six foot two, you might think he is not very good on the ball, think again. The ace averaged almost 50 passes per league game last campaign at an average of 82.1%.
And at 22, he is a continuation of the club’s transfer policy this summer: buying young.
On the pitch, Arsenal may well be a mess but, off it, the club is building for the future.
