Report: Third Manchester City star eyed by Barcelona for summer move; club could offer swap deal
FC Barcelona are keen on signing Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo. The Catalan giants are also interested in Bernardo Silva and Aymeric Laporte.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga side are keen on the Portuguese international. The report states that a swap deal between the two clubs could be on the table.
Sergi Roberto is the player who might be on offer to City should Barcelona pursue a trade, as per the report.
Multiple Manchester City players have been linked to Barcelona
Cancelo is the third City player who has been linked with a move to Barcelona this week. As per Mundo Deportivo, Silva is a player who Ronald Koeman’s side are keen on.
Whilst according to Sport, Laporte is eager to push for a move to the La Liga titans.
The Athletic also report that Silva was the subject of interest from Barcelona last summer. The City playmaker had his heart set on a move to Spain. However, a transfer fell through late on.
As for Cancelo, the defender played a starring role for City last season in his best year for the Manchester club. The right-back made the position his own for Pep Guardiola’s side and was in the 2020/21 PFA Team of the Year.
Barcelona will have to launch a monumental effort to sign Cancelo
The Portuguese defender was sensational for City last season. And although Barcelona’s interest in the defender might well be real, it will take some offer for the Premier League champions to allow their key fullback to depart this summer.
Indeed, offering Roberto could be an interesting proposition for Guardiola. The City boss handed the Barcelona star his debut for the club back in 2011. The Spanish international’s versatility would also be an alluring trait for the City boss.
Yet despite this proposition, Cancelo is just too valuable an asset for the Manchester giants to offer up for a trade this summer for a player who will turn 30 next season.
