Newcastle United are closing in on a club-record swoop for Sweden and Real Soceidad forward Alexander Isak.
The Athletic have produced a report on the impending arrival of the highly-rated forward and offered some insight.
They say that Newcastle’s entire recruitment team agree that the club should sign Isak, despite having Chris Wood and Callum Wilson at the club already.
One reason for that is his versatility, and ability to play on either flank, raising the prospect of playing in the same team as Wilson.

Newcastle closing in on Isak
During Euro 2020, Isak’s fellow Swede Freddie Ljungberg, who knows plenty about what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, praised him.
“100 per cent he’s been the one that’s special for Sweden.
“Forsberg as well, but he’s different from all the other players because he has amazing pace, so even if we’re very defensive, if he gets the ball we can break and teams struggle to catch him, and even if they do catch him it’s usually a free-kick and then Sweden can rest from the free-kick, so he’s very, very important,” Ljungberg said.
It is a mouth-watering prospect to have him and Allan Saint-Maximin in the same side, potentially with Wilson thrown in when he is fit again too.
Newcastle have been patient with their targets, only going for players they are sure can fit their style and profile of player they want.
Isak is one who has come and gone from the radar, but he is firmly in their sights now and will soon show the Premier League what he can do.
