Reports from Sport Bible and the Chronicle claim Wayne Rooney is the latest boss to be considered as a replacement for Steve Bruce at Newcastle.
Bruce’s future is not expected to last until Saturday’s clash against London outfit Crystal Palace, when the Toon travel south to Selhurst Park.
But the new owners are yet to pick a candidate to replace him, with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Roberto Martinez and Unai Emery also options.
That is according to Sport Bible, who say Rooney is now one of four managers they are considering – along with the aforementioned trio.
Rooney, 35, is currently facing a near-impossible job to keep Derby County in the Championship – after the club suffered a 12-point deduction.
They sit bottom on three, six points adrift. He is gaining respect for his handling of the position he has been placed in – but has won 13 of 50.

Is Rooney the right man to take over at Newcastle, after Derby stint?
Well, firstly, the positives are that it is Rooney. The man is England’s leading goalscorer – albeit not for long as Harry Kane continues to score regularly.
He is an English footballing legend. The calibre of name will attract players from all over the globe – some of the best in world football.
Rooney is showing leadership, commitment, loyalty and tactical awareness at Derby. The Chronicle also say he would add Given to his coaching staff.
But is he ready for a job like Newcastle? Has he done enough? That is the question. Just 50 games in management, to get a job like Newcastle?
He is certainly an outsider compared to the likes of Emery or Martinez – or even Rudi Garcia, a new name the Mail reported on Monday evening.
