Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson is keen to sign Bristol City captain Bailey Wright on loan for the rest of the season, according to a report from The Sun (9/1; page 51).

The Black Cats’ form has started to turn around in recent weeks. They are unbeaten in their last five and now sit one point off the top six in the League One table.

And it appears that Phil Parkinson is looking to make a significant statement in the January window. The Sun (9/1; page 51) reports that Sunderland want Wright on loan until the summer.

The report notes that Sunderland are prepared to cover all of the Australia international’s wages. It is suggested that they also want to bring Antoine Semenyo in from Ashton Gate on a temporary basis.

Wright would arguably be an excellent addition to Parkinson’s ranks. He has made over 250 league appearances during his career across spells in both League One and the Championship.

He would bring a wealth of experience. And he would arguably bring some much-needed depth to Parkinson’s options at the heart of the defence.

It would arguably be a real coup for Sunderland if they can get a deal across the line.

And it would be no surprise to see the Black Cats push closer to the play-off places should they manage to sign Wright this month.
