League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland are hoping to sign Arsenal youngster Ryan Alebiosu on loan before the end of the transfer window.

Alebiosu, 19, is under contract with the Gunners and has already made a mark at London Colney, training with the first-team on more than one occasion.

And now The Chronicle claim that Sunderland want to take Alebiosu on loan for the season. The right-back could be allowed to leave Arsenal in the hope of gaining first-team experience.

The Chronicle claim Lee Johnson has identified Alebiosu as the ideal player to fill the right-back void at the Stadium of Light.

Alebiosu made 18 appearances last season for Arsenal in the Premier League 2 competition. Like so many in that squad, he is highly-regarded and could be in line for a big future with the club.

Sunderland have made a good start to life in League One this time around and are already on nine points from four games.

TBR’s View: Arsenal wise to send youngsters out

The PL2 might be a good competition in its own right but nothing compares to actual football for young players like Alebiosu.

This is a smart play by everyone. Sunderland will get an athletic full-back who’ll be keen to impress, while Arsenal will see one of their younger players get crucial game time in League One.

Sunderland will fancy this season as being the year they can finally climb from the third tier. That environment will benefit Alebiosu, and can only benefit Arsenal in the long-term.
