Sky Sports have claimed on their Transfer Centre (Friday, 12.36pm) that Sunderland have tabled an offer to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson on loan before Friday’s 5pm deadline.
Sanderson, 20, went on loan to Cardiff City in January for the second half of last season and impressed in his 10 appearances. However, he has failed to break into Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, instead playing for the Under-23 side this season.
The versatile defender, who can play at centre-back or as a right-back, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Wolves and is in danger of failing to earn a new deal with his boyhood club. He may need a loan to prove he deserves a deal.
League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland have tabled a loan offer for Sanderson, though it is unclear how long the loan is – and whether it includes a permanent option, though the latter is unlikely. Wolves are yet to respond.

TBR’s view – Sanderson needs a loan move
Sanderson has enormous potential and it is perhaps somewhat harsh that he has been handed just one senior appearance for the Midlands club. Certainly, he needs game time to show the footballing world what he is all about.
A move to Cardiff helped do just that last season and now, perhaps, a season-long loan at Sunderland would convince Wolves into handing him a long-term deal and more of a chance of breaking into the first team. It is just what he needs.
