The Liverpool Echo claim that Sunderland have begun talks to sign Liverpool defender Tony Gallacher this summer. The report claims a deal could be on loan, though a permanent deal has not been ruled out. The versatile defender is deemed as ‘likely to leave’ by The Echo.
Gallacher, 22, has been a regular part of Liverpool’s Under-23 side over the past season. He played eight times for the club’s second string in 20-21. The Scotland Under-19 international joined the Reds from Falkirk in 2018 for a fee in the region of £200,000 – playign 26 times at senior level.
At the start of 2020-21 campaign, Gallacher played 10 times for Toronto before returning to Anfield. He has played once for Liverpool, but the chances of him breaking into the senior side are almost zero. Sunderland have opened talks, with a loan or a permanent deal possible.

Gallacher needs to jump at leaving Liverpool for Sunderland
It is a brilliant move for Gallacher. The defender, who is naturally a left-back but can play in the middle of the defence and even on the right – Gallacher, needs to leave Liverpool this summer. A move to a club the size of Sunderland would be a brilliant move for the Glasgow-born ace.
He can hardly do much better than that. League One is about his standard, but there is no doubting that if he is given regular game time he can improve on that. Sunderland, in terms of stature, is just about the best club he can join and remain in English football this summer.
