Report suggests Stephan Ambrosius has rejected contract offer amid Leeds United interest

It has been claimed that Leeds United are keeping tabs on Hamburg stopper Stephan Ambrosius. As reported by Hanuaer Anzeiger, the 2.Bundesliga side are desperately trying to get Ambrosius to sign a new deal, keeping him at the club until 2024.

His current contract expires next summer, making him vulnerable to interest from Leeds who could agree to a pre-contract arrangement with the 21-year-old as early as 2024.

Now, a report from Hamburger Morgenpost has highlighted that contract situation with the German club.

They claim that Ambrosius remains one of the club’s lowest earners, on less than €200,000-a-year (approximately £3,500-a-week).

The report claims that the defender has new management and they see his impressive start to the new season as a chance to leverage interest from other clubs to get him a lucrative new deal, at Hamburg or elsewhere.

So far a new deal offered which would have tied Ambrosius down until 2024 has been rejected and the report claims that Hamburg will not be held to ransom and will not pay over the odds for the youngster.

So Leeds United are right to keep track of the youngster, who is set to make his debut for the Germany under-21s this month after his excellent start to the season. His contract situation makes him a potential bargain get and the West Yorkshire side will no doubt be keeping tabs.
