Erik ten Hag is one of the managers to have attracted Tottenham Hotspur’s interest as they search for Jose Mourinho’s successor, according to a report from Football London.
Spurs only parted company with Mourinho at the start of this week. Nevertheless, they seem to have already been linked with a number of managers from across Europe.
The Athletic suggested that contact had been made with Marcelino. Meanwhile, they also suggested that Julian Nagelsmann, Scott Parker and Ralph Hasenhuttl all had admirers in North London.
And Football London has added another couple of names to the wishlist. According to their report, there is interest from Spurs in both ten Hag and Brighton boss Graham Potter.
Ten Hag has done an outstanding job with Ajax. In 161 games in charge of the Eredivisie giants, he averages more than 2.3 points per game (Transfermarkt).
Of course, the achievement he is probably best known to Tottenham fans for is leading Ajax to the Champions League semi-final in 2019. However, they fell victim to an incredible comeback from Spurs on that occasion.
Ajax are on the cusp of winning the Eredivisie title this season. They sit 11 points clear with six games remaining.
It would be no surprise therefore, to see ten Hag take the next step in his managerial career at some stage in the near future.
He has shown that he can improve players. And he has shown that he can deal with expectations.
Some may feel that he has more to prove given Ajax’s stature in the Netherlands. But his Champions League performance should arguably silence those doubters.
And if Tottenham decided to make a move, it would arguably be an incredibly exciting appointment.
