Napoli are set to join the race for Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos in the net transfer window. As reported by CalcioMercato, the Partenopei are keen on bringing in the player who, according to The Mirror, is valued at around £36 million.
It is a move that would certainly be welcomed by Liverpool, considering one of their main targets this summer.
The Reds have been consistently linked with a move for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz recently.
As reported by The Express, Ruiz is Liverpool’s number one target for the summer with the likes of Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri set to leave and Naby Keita failing to impress in midfield.
As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have recently lowered Ruiz’s asking price from €80 million (£70m) to €60 million (£52m), as it becomes clear that the midfielder wants to leave. Amid the financial constraints caused by the current global health crisis, Napoli have also adjusted their price-tag accordingly.
Ceballos would be a perfect replacement. His countryman plays in a very similar role and would be available at a fraction of the price Napoli are looking to sell Ruiz for.
Of course, there is one glaring stumbling block in all this. Liverpool are not the only ones hot on Ruiz this summer, Real Madrid are also said to be keen. Considering they could just use Ceballos in any deal to sign Ruiz, Liverpool could be at a disadvantage.
But should they allow Ceballos to head to Naples and move on from their reported Ruiz interest, then Liverpool could be in luck.
