Everton’s transfer pursuit of Jean-Philippe Gbamin is not as advanced as some reports have suggested.

Sky Germany reported yesterday that the Ivory Coast international could be set for a medical at Everton as soon as today.

However, the Liverpool Echo has since made it clear that is an unlikely timeframe. The report suggests that Everton have not yet reached an agreement with the player’s club Mainz over a transfer fee.

The Bundesliga side want at least £25 million for the player and negotiations ‘are on-going’ with Everton.

Gbamin has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye at Goodison Park. As reported by The Guardian, Everton sold the Senegalese midfielder to French giants PSG for a fee of £29 million earlier in the week.

Gbamin, who can also play at centre-back, has been identified as a potential target by Marcel Brands. Foot Mercato reported last week that the Dutchman had previously targeted Gbamin during his tenure in charge of PSV Eindhoven’s recruitment.

Everton fans will no doubt hope that Gbamin is on his way to the club soon. But for now, until he is announced offically by the club, it is best fans are patient regarding the talented 23-year-old.
