Everton might have a now or never chance to sign Lille captain Adama Soumaoro, according to reports in France this week.
As reported by Le10Sport, Monaco looked set to snap up the talented defender this summer. The Monegasque club had a bid of €13 million (£11.7 million) accepted by Lille for the player and it seemed a deal was pending.
However, that has now not proven to be the case. The report from Le10 suggests that Soumaoro has not managed to agree on contract terms with Monaco.
Negotiations are ongoing, so if Everton are indeed keen on the player they will need to make a move post-haste.
It was reported by La Voix Du Nord this month that Everton had been in contact with the player’s representatives about a potential deal. The report claimed England as his preferred destination, with Crystal Palace also keen.
It is not the first time that Everton have been linked with the French defender. As reported by the Daily Mail, Sam Allardyce was reportedly keen on the 27-year-old back in December 2017
It appears clear that Soumaoro is open to a move to England and with Everton’s attempts to sign Kurt Zouma dragging, this could be a perfect alternative.
But speed is at the essence. Monaco will be hoping to tie him down before any other club’s do pick up the scent.
