Arsenal are set to let Matt Macey leave the club this summer, according to a report.

Football.London is suggesting that the third-choice keeper will not have his contract renewed at The Emirates and will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

It would bring to an end a seven-year association with the Gunners for the giant 6ft 7ins stopper.

Arsenal snapped up the goalkeeper from Bristol Rovers in 2013 with the hope of him potentially becoming a first-team option going forward. He has since spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley, Luton Town, and Plymouth Argyle, where he was the first-choice goalkeeper for most of the 2018-19 campaign.

He has also featured for the Arsenal first-team on two occasions, against Norwich City in a 2017 EFL Cup match and against Red Star Belgrade in a Europa League Group Stage match the same year.

That performance, in a 0-0 draw, drew heavy praise from Arsene Wenger, as reported by The Independent, who was impressed with his agility for a man of his size.

“I think he took his chance very well. He is huge, he is quick, and you don’t often find that combination, of that size and that speed. He is very agile.

“Matt came to us late, normally goalkeepers come at 16, but he came at 20 basically. But he is very focused, and that is what I was pleased to give him a chance tonight, and he took it.”

However, at 25-years-old, the time has clearly come for the Bath-born star to find himself a new team and begin to play more regular first-team football.

His experiences at Arsenal, training with the likes of Petr Cech, Bernd Leno, and David Ospina throughout the years will undoubtedly have helped him become a better stopper and plenty of Football League teams are likely to be looking at him as a potential recruit in the summer.
