Report suggests Liverpool could swoop for Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips after Timo Werner deal

A report from Bleacher Report this week might have some bad news for Leeds United concerning their star midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The report has detailed Liverpool’s potential transfer plans for the next transfer window and it appears Jurgen Klopp will not be making big moves in the market.

He appears happy with the current squad and, why wouldn’t he be, with the Reds having a sensational 2019-20 until the recently enforced break.

Timo Werner of RB Leipzig is apparently their only big transfer target at a reported (Metro) fee of £50 million but they could also add depth to their midfield by moving for two English youngsters.

One of those is Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell, whilst the other is Leeds United’s midfield dynamo Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips has been in fine form for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds this season, form which has even seen him linked with a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Liverpool have been tentatively linked before but Leeds United promised Bielsa the player would not be sold ahead of the current campaign, as the likes of Aston Villa and Sheffield United lurked.

If Leeds are not playing Premier League football next season, then it is clear that Phillips will have to make the move to the top-flight to make England’s Euro 2021 squad.

Liverpool are now seemingly keen and Leeds may have a fight on their hands.
