Report suggests Leeds United are giving unknown Spanish youngster a trial

At the start of June, Leeds United revealed the club had started a partnership with a Spanish based talent identification programme. Foot Talent, based in Salamanca in Spain, is the brainchild of one-time Dorchester first-team coach Gorka Exteberria. It sees unsigned talented players participating in intensive training in Spain, with the hope of earning pro deals.

The press release from Leeds regarding the partnership stated that Leeds would have first-option on signing any of the players who caught the eye.

Leeds sent out scout Rodrigo Hernan to work on the jury of the programme.

It has now come to an end and as reported by Salamanca 24 Horas some of the players involved have done enough to attract interest from professional clubs. In fact, French goalkeeper Lucas Giffard has been signed by Spanish side Cultural Leonesa.

The report also states that one player is on his way to Leeds United for a trial. The player in question is named as Junior. That appears to be Cesar Junior, as listed among the participants in the set-up by MARCA.

The 17-year-old from Santander has obviously done enough to impress the Leeds United scout in attendance and will now try and earn a deal at Leeds.

Of course, it is unlikely this is first-team news for Leeds. If Junior can impress at Leeds, inclusion in the under-18s would be the most likely next step.

So it will be interesting to see if Junior can earn himself a deal at Leeds in the upcoming months.
