Leeds United are reportedly interested in the transfer of Lazio and Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo this summer. As reported by Imperio, Leeds United are apparently set for talks to commence the coming days.

It is claimed that these talks will progress at the ‘request’ of Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds United fans will rightly feel like they are suffering from deja-vu. Caicedo was linked with a move to Leeds United last summer.

It was reported last July that Bielsa was keen on Caicedo. As reported by Diario La Grada, as relayed and translated by Sport Witness, the Ecuador international was open to a Leeds move.

There were even twitter rumours of the deal happening.  Somebody bearing a resemblance to the former Manchester City striker was photographed outside Elland Road, as reported by Leeds Live.

However, the stories came to nothing. Therefore, this summer, Leeds fans will rightly take the news with a pinch of salt.

According to LaLazioSiamoNoi, Lazio are willing to sell Caicedo for €9 million (£8 million) this summer. The Biancocelesti are hoping to sell him permanently this summer. A loan seems out of the question, as his contract expires in 12 months time.

That fee seems inflated for Leeds. It has become clear Leeds do not have much money to spend this summer. Splashing a vast portion of it on a player unproven in the Championship would seem unlikely. Given he also turns 31 in September, it simply seems beyond likelihood.
