Report suggests Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa could soon have funds for spending spree

Marcelo Bielsa could be handed the funds that enable a future spending spree, with The Sun reporting that San Francisco 49ers are now planning to increase their stake in Leeds United.

The NFL side have been involved at Elland Road since 2018. As noted by The Sun, they paid £11 million for a 10 percent share in the club.

And there has been plenty of success since the partnership was formed.

Within a few months of their arrival, Bielsa was appointed as Leeds boss. That certainly proved to be the major catalyst for the Whites reclaiming a spot in the Premier League, with promotion being secured earlier this year.

And it now appears that the 49ers are looking to secure a greater stake in the club. The Sun reports that they will begin adding to their share as they are desperate to secure a bigger role.

It must be noted that The Sun states that chairman Andrea Radrizzani is only interested in selling a minority share having rejected several takeover offers from elsewhere recently.

The 49ers increasing their stake may not be a move that changes the landscape at Elland Road by any means. But it does appear that it could be good news for Bielsa and Victor Orta.

According to The Sun, a deal would leave the club with the funds to sanction a future spending spree.

TBR View: Spending spree unlikely, but Leeds could be real threat with additional funds

Leeds have made a fantastic start to the season. And that has partially been done to the deals that they did over the summer.

The likes of Robin Koch and Rodrigo Moreno have impressed in the early stages of their Leeds careers. Meanwhile, Diego Llorente and Raphinha are still to come in. They have also signed a number of impressive young players who will have their sights set on future first-team roles.

They do appear to have spent some significant sums. But there is no sense that Leeds have done any panic-buying. Potential concerns about areas of the squad have been addressed with some fantastic additions.

So a future spending spree looks unlikely. But what additional funds may allow is an elevation to the next level should this year prove to be a success.

They may be able to look at more ambitious targets should they establish themselves back in the top flight over the coming seasons. But there seems no reason for Leeds to deviate from the gameplan that has got them this far over the last two years.
