Kiko Casilla is planning to stay at Leeds United this summer despite expecting to go into the new season as Marcelo Bielsa’s second choice goalkeeper, according to a report from The Sun.

Casilla’s future has been up in the air for some time. As reported by The Sun, he served an eight-game ban during the second-half of this past season after being found guilty of using racist language earlier in the campaign.

In his place, Illan Meslier enjoyed an excellent run between the sticks.

And while Casilla came back into the team for Leeds’s penultimate game of the campaign, some may have expected the Spaniard to leave the club this summer with Meslier impressing and subsequently signing a permanent deal at Elland Road.

But it appears that Casilla could still be at Leeds next season. The Sun has suggested that the 33-year-old is planning to stay – even if he is expecting to be behind Meslier in the pecking order.

TBR View: Leeds should be open to offers for Casilla

Given the controversy surrounding Casilla, some may view it as a disappointment should he stay at Leeds beyond this summer.

And even if you put the ban to one side, it is difficult to argue with those who still think that the Whites should let the former Real Madrid man leave.

He has produced some superb performances since arriving in January 2019. However, he has made a number of costly errors. And the contrast between his best and worst displays arguably makes him incredibly difficult to rely upon.

In truth, Leeds looked a lot more assured with Meslier in goal. The youngster has probably not been tested enough just yet. But he seems to have ticked every box so far.
