Aston Villa could potentially turn their attention to Josh King after missing out on Callum Wilson, according to a report from the Express and Star.
The Villans are still looking to bolster their attacking ranks this summer. The Express and Star notes that they had made a £21 million bid for Wilson late last week.
The report claims that the offer was withdrawn with the 28-year-old setting his sights on a move to Newcastle. And any remaining hope of Villa still signing Wilson has now been quashed with the forward completing his switch to St James’ Park.
The Express and Star reports that Ollie Watkins remains on the radar. And it is suggested that Wilson’s now-former teammate King is also a player who could attract their attention.
Like Wilson, King seems to have been linked with a move away from the Vitality Stadium for much of the window.
The 28-year-old has scored 48 goals in the Premier League, reaching double figures on two occasions.
The Sun noted last month that the Cherries were not willing to consider offers worth less than £25 million for King. So Villa will have to be prepared to spend a considerable sum to get a deal done.
What King does offer is versatility. Like Watkins, he is capable of playing in a number of positions across the forward line.
So it will be very interesting to see in the coming weeks whether Villa do confirm their interest in the Norway international with a bid.
