Report suggests Jose Mourinho is trying to convince Daniel Levy to soften transfer policy

Jose Mourinho is reportedly hoping to get Daniel Levy to change his stance on potential transfer incomings at the club. 

In particular, this appears to be in reference to the PSG right-back Thomas Meunier. The Telegraph is suggesting that Mourinho sees the upcoming free agent as a perfect option in Tottenham’s main problem position. 

However, at 28-years-old, he falls foul of Levy’s apparent transfer policy regarding signing players over the age of 25. 

The Tottenham chairman only wants players with significant resale values arriving at the club. It is why the likes of Max Aarons and Youcef Atal are continuously linked with solving the right-back problem. 

But Mourinho believes a player like Meunier should not be passed up because of his age. 

For the Portuguese boss, changing Levy’s mind on this transfer strategy could be key. 

The likes of Willian and Olivier Giroud have recently been linked with Tottenham and neither would make the cut under Levy’s policy. 

Mourinho likes to work with more experienced options in his squad and Tottenham’s lack of leadership has been a clear problem throughout the 2019-20 campaign. 

If Mourinho can get some wiggle room from Levy on this strict transfer policy, it could make the Portuguese’s job much easier at Tottenham.
