It was one of the transfer window’s more surprising rumours but at one point it seemed Arsenal might have a chance of signing Jorginho from city rivals Chelsea.
The Gunners were being linked with a move for the Italian international as it appeared he would be slipping out of the Chelsea starting XI in 2020-21.
Jorginho, who joined Chelsea in a reported (The Sun) £57.4 million move from Napoli in 2018, even admitted he was not closed off to a potential move to The Emirates.
“I believe that every player is open to negotiations,” Jorginho told ESPN Brazil. “So I believe there was something they talked about. And in the end, it was decided that I remain here. Now my head is here and we’re going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.”
It came amid Arsenal’s failed attempts to sign both Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar. In the end, the Gunners did snap up the Ghanaian midfielder but could still have a gap to fill in midfield.

Mikel Arteta was said to be a big fan of Jorginho and now, according to Eurosport, there is a chance the Chelsea man could be available in January.
Jorginho has seemed to lose his place in the Chelsea pecking order whilst he has also been stripped of penalty-taking duties.
With that in mind, interest from Italy is present over a potential January move.
Arsenal could easily join that race.
It seemed at the start of October that the idea of letting Jorginho head to Arsenal was being considered and a move to the Gunners might be the perfect opportunity for Jorginho to kickstart his English career once again.
If Arsenal can work out the finances, this might be a deal to revisit in the winter.
