Kalvin Phillips will not be in Gareth Southgate’s next England squad after suffering a shoulder injury in the recent loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, that does not necessarily mean that there will not be a Leeds United player in the England team.
It appears Patrick Bamford is being considered as a potential option, according to a report from the Yorkshire Post.
They are claiming that the Leeds striker is being considered as an alternative to Danny Ings, who is currently out of action after suffering a knee injury for Southampton this week.
Bamford could be brought into the England fold for games against the Republic of Ireland – for whom Bamford is also eligible – Belgium and Iceland although the report also makes it clear that Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is also an option.

Bamford has been in fine form for Leeds in the Premier League this season, scoring six goals in seven games, including a stunning hat-trick against Aston Villa.
It makes him one of the league’s top-scorers and did lead to a chorus of calls suggesting that the Leeds striker deserves a shot for his nation.
However, there is no doubt that Bamford’s display against Leicester City might work against him. The Leeds striker missed two crucial opportunities to score, including at 0-0 early in the game, whilst Wilson was at the double in Newcastle’s win over Everton.
But it certainly seems that Bamford is on the radar for Southgate and England after his impressive start to life in the Premier League.
