According to a report from the Liverpool ECHO, four of Everton’s current under-23 midfield options have ‘unclear’ futures at the club.
The report was regarding current under-18 star Lewis Warrington. It is suggested he will step up to David Unsworth’s brilliant under-23 side next season and partner another talent in Tyler Onyango in midfield.
But it also states that Dennis Adeniran, Nathangelo Markelo, Beni Baningime, and Alex Denny face uncertain futures at Everton.
Adeniran arrived from Fulham in 2017 in a deal that could have risen to £4 million, according to Sky Sports. Quite the investment but it made sense considering he had already made his first-team bow at Craven Cottage and even scored on his professional debut.
Injuries have not helped as Adeniran has struggled to progress and the 21-year-old has been used in a number of positions for the under-23s this season. But he has been training with the first-team under Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian’s arrival, so his departure would seem the least likely.
The other three do seem to be teetering on the edge. Markelo, a Dutch under-21 international, has failed to find his best position at Finch Farm and is out of contract at the end of the season.
Baningime, a first-team player under Ronald Koeman, saw a loan move to Denmark fall through at the start of the season and has not got back to the front-line. His contract runs until 2022 but there has been growing speculation that his long-term future is not with Everton.
As for Denny, he has not pushed on since making his first-team debut for Everton in December 2017 and the 20-year-old has also been used in numerous positions this term. He has not managed to find his spark since a serious foot injury and with his contract expiring, Denny does appear set to leave.
Looking at the four names, it would appear that Denny and Markelo are likely to go whilst Baningime would also appear to be in with a good chance of an exit. Adeniran will have hoped to have caught the eye of Ancelotti sufficiently to ensure he gets one more year to prove himself at the club.
