Aston Villa are interested in strengthening their options at left-back and at centre-back, according to a report from Sky Sports.

Dean Smith’s side go into January in a fantastic position in the Premier League. They are seven points off top spot with two games in hand over Liverpool.

They are unbeaten in their last five, winning three. And Manchester City are the only team to have conceded fewer goals than the Villans.

There certainly appears to be a very good opportunity for Villa to achieve something very special this season. And for some, that may be a reason to push the boat out in January.

However, it appears that Smith is fairly happy with what he has at his disposal. According to Sky Sports, next month’s window is not a priority.

It is noted however, that Villa would still like a new left-back, as well as a left-sided centre-back.

TBR View: Signing cover for Targett and centre-backs could be smart move

Matt Targett has been a revelation at left-back this season. So it would appear that Smith is looking for cover for the former Southampton man.

Meanwhile, it is a similar situation at the heart of the defence. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have been outstanding for much of the season. And Kortney Hause has silenced a lot of doubters with his recent run in the side.

Adding further depth could be a very good move. Villa are in a fantastic place. And adding to their ranks surely increases the likelihood of Smith’s men capitalising on their current position.
