It looks as though Aston Villa’s hopes of signing England goalkeeper Jack Butland are as good as over.
As reported by The Sun, Stoke City want ‘too much’ for the keeper and Aston Villa will have to consider other options.
Back in April, The Telegraph reported that Stoke City wanted £30 million for the stopper. It looked as though that price had gone down. As reported by The Sun earlier this month, Stoke wanted £23 million for the player who wants an exit from the Championship this summer.
Aston Villa, it seemed, were hopeful of finding a middle ground for the player. However, as they were with Cardiff City’s Neil Etheridge, Villa have now been priced out of the deal.

TBR’s View
Aston Villa’s long goalkeeper issues stem back to Brad Guzan’s dramatic dip in form. Since then they have struggled to find an established option between the posts.
Lovre Kalinic was supposed to be the option in January. However, the Croatian struggled for form and eventually lost his place to Jed Steer.
The long-serving Aston Villa deputy, who spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic last season, has now been handed a new contract at Villa Park.
Hopefully, he can cement the number one spot at Aston Villa now it appears goalkeeping options are running thin for Dean Smith’s men.
