Arsenal look to have wrapped up the signing of Chelsea winger Willian and according to ESPN Brasil, as per Sport Witness, the deal could be announced in the coming days.
It would appear that the Brazil flyer’s time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end and he will walk away for nothing following seven years service at the club.
Injury prevented Willian from featuring against the Gunners in the FA Cup Final on Saturday but he could now be lining-up with Mikel Arteta’s team next season.
The trickster signed for Chelsea in 2013 from Anzhi in Russia, costing the Blues £30 million, according to BBC Sport.
He has proved a decent signing for the club, scoring 63 goals and registering 62 assists during 339 appearances for the London-based club.
Willian was paid £138,000-a-week towards the end of his Chelsea career and details of his contract at Arsenal are not given in the reports outlining latest developments.
Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League last season and Arteta knows that isn’t really good enough.
The challenge next season will be to at least push for European qualification via the league, if not flirt with the top four.
Money could be tight this summer and adding Willian on a free would represent a decent start to the club’s recruitment this summer.
TBR View – Willian could thrive under Arteta and light up the Emirates
Some Arsenal supporters might look to the fact that Willian is now 31 and is hardly a signing with one eye on the future.
What he is, however, is a proven Premier League player who has won countless trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge.
With money tight, it shouldn’t be underestimated just how much quality Willian could bring and all without a transfer fee.
The 69 cap international is not only quick but he’s intelligent, works hard and can also chip in with goals.
If he settles quickly under Arteta he could dazzle the Gunners faithful and light up the Emirates.
