Report suggests Arsenal could make fresh David Raya move this summer

Arsenal could go back in for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya during the summer, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Gunners appear to have an issue to address between the sticks. Emi Martinez was sold to Aston Villa at the start of this season.

His replacement, Alex Runarsson has endured a difficult start to life at the Emirates. And Football London reported earlier this week that a new backup goalkeeper is on their January shopping list.

The Telegraph reported back in September that Arsenal were interested in Raya. And it was claimed that the £3 million Spaniard was hugely excited about the prospect of joining the Gunners.

Ultimately, Raya would stay at Brentford. And he has since gone on to sign a new contract with Thomas Frank’s men.

But it would appear that that has not prompted Arsenal to take him off their radar. The Telegraph is now suggesting that Arteta’s men could go back in in the summer.

TBR View: Much will depend on Brentford’s promotion push

A lot can change before the end of the season. Raya’s decision to sign a new deal with the Bees was a statement. But having reportedly been interested in a move before, Arsenal will hope that he can be tempted again at some stage in the future.

If Brentford miss out on promotion this season, Arsenal will surely sense a window of opportunity. But if Frank’s side do go up, it is difficult to see Raya pushing for a move away.

As things stand, he would surely arrive at Arsenal as number two behind Leno.

He was seemingly content with that possibility last summer. But if Brentford are promoted, he may take a different stance should the Gunners come calling later this year.
