Report suggested Arsene Wenger and Gilles Grimandi wanted Corentin Tolisso in 2016

Arsenal’s former regime were clearly keen on the Frenchman in the past.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso, according to reports.

Foot Mercato are reporting that Bayern are ready to cut their losses on the Frenchman, who has struggled with injury problems since moving to Bavaria in 2017.

Arsenal are one of a number of clubs linked with a move for the player.

It is not the first time Tolisso has been on Arsenal’s radar.

As reported by L’Equipe in 2016, Arsenal were keen on signing the player, who was being linked with a £14 million move to Napoli at the time.

It would have been a bold move from Arsenal and former boss Arsene Wenger, with Tolisso just starting to make a name for himself with former club Lyon. But, as suggested by Get French Football News at the time, Arsenal’s French scout Gilles Grimandi was a ‘big fan’ of Tolisso.

But the deal never came off. Arsenal had already signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, meaning Tolisso’s potential signature was no longer necessary.

Tolisso stuck around at Lyon for another season before eventually heading to Germany. Now, with a reported (Bild) asking price of around €35 million (£30.6m), Arsenal might have another chance to snap up the Frenchman who Wenger and co were clearly hot on back in 2016.
