Report suggest Matej Vydra up for sale so should Leeds United return?

It appears Burnley are ready to cash in on Matej Vydra this summer. As reported by the Sun on Sunday (09/06/2019) the Clarets are ready to let the Czech Republic international leave the club and are hoping to recoup around £10 million for the player.

After failing to have an impact in the Premier League, it is likely the Championship beckons yet again for a player who has starred at that level.

But should Leeds United be looking to bring him to Elland Road?

Last summer, it was well documented that Vydra was on Leeds’ wishlist. In the end, as reported by Sky Sports, the deal fell apart. The report suggested that an £11 million move to Elland Road fell apart as Vydra had concerns about leaving Derby for a fellow Championship side, who had finished below the Rams the previous season.

The Yorkshire Evening Post suggested Leeds themselves cooled the interest. The Czech’s increased wage demands reportedly the reason. However, the report did state Leeds were willing to offer Vydra £30,000-a-week and that Bielsa was a big fan of the player.

In the end, Leeds signed Patrick Bamford in a deal that has failed to have the desired impact.

Any doubts about Leeds’ promotion credentials will surely be gone for Vydra. After flopping in the Premier League the Czech will not be in as strong a bargaining position when it comes to wages. So it seems a deal could be just as likely if Leeds decide to return.

Funding the move might be an issue but Vydra will surely be on the agenda for Leeds this summer if he is indeed up for grabs.
