Report: Striker on Spurs radar could’ve gone for £9m last summer, this year club wants £36.5m

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a player who would have cost €10million (around £9million) last summer but won’t go for any cheaper than €40million (£36.5million) this year, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Real Betis striker Loren Moron has emerged as a transfer target for several clubs in Europe, including Spurs, after scoring 11 goals and claiming three assists in 29 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Spanish outlet La Razon has claimed that Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is eyeing the 26-year-old as a possible replacement for Harry Kane, whose future at Spurs remains the subject of much speculation.

Serie A sides Napoli and AC Milan have also been linked with Moron, according to Calciomercato.

The Marbella-born marksman had a relatively lacklustre season last time out, with just seven goals in 33 La Liga appearances, and AS claims Betis were willing to accept €10million for him in the summer.

However, Moron himself reportedly rejected the move over concerns about first-team football elsewhere, and now he’s firing on all cylinders again, Betis won’t consider any offers below his release clause, believed to be between €40million and €50million.

Moron has enjoyed a good rise this season, going from a misfiring forward reportedly on the verge of being jettisoned by his club to allegedly being sought after by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Indeed, Barcelona were linked with Moron in January (Goal) and were even considering moving for him on an emergency deal (The Sun) before ultimately opting for Martin Braithwaite.

Although he’s been doing pretty well, it’s also worth pointing out most of his goals this term came early on in the season, and has only scored four times in all competitions since November (Transfermarkt).

With that under consideration, is £36.5million a decent deal for a player whose goalscoring form has blown hot and cold throughout much of his career, and is untested in the Premier League? Doesn’t seem like it.
