Report: Striker compared to Raul now likely to join Crystal Palace, scored 17 goals last season
According to AS, Crystal Palace are now likely to sign Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral on a season-long loan deal.
What’s the story?
Well, this one has come out of the blue.
The Spanish news outlet believe Mayoral is surplus to requirements under José Mourinho, following the arrival of Tammy Abraham in a £34m deal.
This is quite a surprise, as the 24-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions last season and was one of Roma’s best players.
The Serie A outfit even denied Mayoral the chance to represent Spain at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, as they wanted him to spend pre-season under Mourinho.
AS believe that has left Real Madrid – who the Spaniard is on loan from – surprised and angered, due to his tremendous efforts last season.
Now, AS are claiming that the chances of Mayoral wearing a Crystal Palace shirt after transfer deadline day are high.
What would Crystal Palace be getting in Borja Mayoral?
Well, according to Zinedine Zidane, the Eagles would effectively be getting Raul 2.0.
As stated on Roma’s official website, Zidane likened Mayoral to the iconic Spanish striker, in what is very high praise indeed.
The Frenchman added that the Parla-born forward is “a striker who scores every time he has a shot” – very encouraging.
That certainly bodes well for Patrick Vieira, if this news is true.
Again seen on Roma’s official website, Mayoral scored an incredible 102 goals in just 77 appearances for Real Madrid’s Under-16 and Under-18 sides.
There’s no doubt he knows where the net is.
The south Londoners desperately need a goalscorer, having failed to score so far this season.
In Mayoral, Vieira could have the ideal solution – keep your eyes on this deal.
