Tottenham Hotspur could complete a move to sign Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven in the next 48 hours, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
Bergwijn is enjoying another outstanding season in the Eredivisie. He has contributed 10 assists and scored five goals in just 16 top flight appearances this season.
The Daily Mirror reports that Spurs made a bid of around £30 million after Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho met with the attacker’s advisers last week.
And the Mirror suggests an announcement could be imminent, with some expecting the move to go through in the next 48 hours.
It is noted that Bergwijn has been left out of PSV’s squad for their clash with FC Twente on Sunday amid speculation over his future.
TBR View – Bergwijn could be a fantastic signing for Spurs
Bergwijn looks to have the potential to be an inspired signing for Tottenham. Since the start of last season, he has had a direct hand in 41 goals in the top flight.
And he is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line. He has played up front and on both wings for PSV this season. He has even made a handful of appearances in central midfield.
With Harry Kane set to be sidelined for some time yet, Bergwijn’s versatility could prove particularly useful to Mourinho.
It looks to be a real statement of intent from Tottenham as the January deadline looms.
