Report: Steve Bruce considering restoring Shelvey to Newcaste starting XI

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is said to be toying with the idea of restoring midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to the starting XI.

According to The Chronicle, the manager is said to have been ‘far from satisfied’ with the way his team allowed Wolverhampton Wanderers to equalise last weekend, and will potentially ring the changes for the West Ham game.

Shelvey, 27, has been used rather sparingly so far this season by Bruce.

The Englishman has made just six appearances so far in 2019/20, and has been unavailable for just one game with injury so far.

For one reason or another, Bruce has not fancied the former Swansea City and Liverpool playmaker, but apparently the 58-year-old is now debating starting him against the Hammers on Saturday.

TBR’s view – Bruce should start starting Shelvey

Newcastle are currently crying out for a bit of creativity in the middle of the park, and Shelvey is arguably the only midfielder capable of making things happen.

He has the vision and execution to get Newcastle into dangerous positions, and Bruce has to consider ditching the workhorse options in favour of someone with quality on the ball.

He isn’t in the best form, but the £12 million signing (BBC Sport) needs a string of games in order to build momentum.

The likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton would surely benefit more having a provider like Shelvey behind them rather than the more tenacious Longstaff brothers or Isaac Hayden.
