Report: Staveley confident of Emery appointment at Newcastle in next 48 hours

The Mail claim that Amanda Staveley is confident of appointing Unai Emery as Newcastle manager in next 48 hours, after zoom calls on Sunday.

Emery, 49, is now expected to leave Europa League winners Villarreal to join Newcastle. The Yellow Submarine have made a poor start to 21-22.

Just two league wins in 11 might have convinced the ex-Arsenal gaffer to jump ship – with Tyneside his landing spot. A deal could be done soon.

Indeed, The Mail’s Craig Hope says that Emery is set to join Newcastle from Villarreal in the next 48 hours. This is, after zoom calls on Sunday.

Those calls between Emery and co-owner Amanda Staveley – who is seemingly the face of the club’s new consortium – have left her confident.

It is believed now that Emery will be in place before this weekend’s game against Brighton. An announcement is expected in the next 48 hours.

Emery to Newcastle: Spaniard a massive coup for Staveley and Toon

Newcastle were always going to bring in a big-name gaffer, given the potential of the project over the next few years. But Emery is huge.

Antonio Conte links were always too ambitious. With the Italian off to Tottenham, Paulo Fonseca was the next best option for Newcastle.

But the Portuguese gaffer does not look as if he will be joining the club, with Emery now nailed-on as favourite. He would be a superb addition.

He suits Newcastle’s style – anyone who watched Villarreal beat Manchester United will have seen his side defensively solid, but countering with pace.

The likes of Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser will surely benefit with Emery in place. An exciting time for Toon fans.
