Report states three reasons why Keita will stay at Liverpool

There are allegedly three reasons why Naby Keita will stay with Liverpool this summer.

What’s the story?

According to The Athletic, the 26-year-old could remain at Anfield beyond the current transfer window.

The publication states three reasons why this would be the case.

For starters, the loss of Gini Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman left Liverpool on a free transfer to join Paris Saint Germain. It means Jurgen Klopp will go into next season without one of his trusted lieutenants.

This leads nicely to the second reason: Liverpool’s inability to sign a big-money replacement.

Losing the £25m 30-year-old is a hammer blow for Klopp. However, signing a replacement is proving impossible. The Reds need to sell in order to raise money for transfers.

The final reason is the lack of suitable bids for the Guinea international.

Atletico Madrid were linked with a move, however, he wasn’t ranked highly among the club’s targets.

Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Virgil van Dijk once labelled the ace ‘world class’.

Keita running out of chances to impress

Keita may get one more opportunity at Liverpool amid the news he is likely to stay this summer.

The midfielder’s fitness issues have been a massive worry for the Reds since his move in 2018.

As a matter of fact, the African ace has missed more than 10 games in each of his three seasons at the club thus far.

It has limited his impact on the field but, even when fit, Keita has flattered to deceive.

His inconsistencies at both ends of the pitch saw him play just 16 times across all competitions last season. Of those 16, he started just eight fixtures; an underwhelming return.

Just three years after his £48m move from Red Bull Leipzig, it is fair to say the player is lucky to get one last chance next term.
