Report: Staff at Tottenham want 'outstanding' manager appointed with Antonio Conte's future in doubt, Heung-Min Son loves him
90 Min reports that staff at Tottenham Hotspur want to reunite with their former boss Maurico Pochettino with Antonio Conte’s future in doubt.
Conte has done an excellent job during his time at Spurs so far, having guided them back into the Champions League last season.
His style of football at Tottenham has certainly received mixed reactions amongst the fan base, but you can’t argue with the results he’s produced so far.
Tottenham have managed to top their Champions League group and headed into the World Cup sitting fourth in the Premier League table, despite some of their stars being sidelined with injuries.
But there is doubt surrounding Conte’s future in north London at the moment, with his contract set to run until the end of the season. And some people on the Tottenham board want the club to look at bringing Pochettino back to Hotspur Way.
Staff at Spurs want Pochettino
90 Min reports that the Tottenham board are not unanimously in favour of handing Conte a contract extension.
Spurs currently have an option to extend the Italian’s deal by a year and are looking for him to commit his long-term future to the club. But the two parties are yet to agree a new contract and 90 Min notes that some within the Spurs hierarchy would prefer to appoint a new boss.
They are apparently cautious of the possibility that Conte could still choose to walk away from the job after being handed a huge deal. And if Tottenham do end up in the position of searching for a new manager, Pochettino has many admirers within the club.
The Argentine turned down the Aston Villa job as he is keen to return to north London and feels he has unfinished business at Spurs.
The outlet claims that Pochettino is also still loved by some of Tottenham’s biggest stars, including both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
Of course, Pochettino did an incredible job in north London and remains a popular figure amongst the Spurs fan base. He’s gone on to lift trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and has been described as an ‘outstanding’ manager.
But it may be too early for Pochettino to return to Spurs, especially as there are still many players at the club who were there when he was sacked back in 2019.
Spurs also have a manager in Conte who has proven he can deliver the biggest trophies, providing he is backed by the club.
