St Mirren will reportedly start talks with Rangers defender Lee Hodson.

According to the Daily Record, the 27-year-old will exit Ibrox this summer and be released when his contract expires.

It is understood that St Mirren will begin discussions about signing him on a permanent basis and he’s considered a priority target.

The right-back spent 2018/19 campaign out on loan at St Mirren, who managed to retain their top-flight status for another season by beating Dundee United on penalties in the play-offs.

Hodson made 23 appearances across all competitions for them and a return now looks to be on the cards.

TBR’s View:

Hodson’s exit this summer will come as no surprise and there seems no need to extend his stay.

The Northern Irish full-back played 27 senior games for the Gers and was only ever a back-up option to captain James Tavernier.

He isn’t quite at the standard required to help Rangers really kick on for the title and Steven Gerrard is looking to build a squad capable of challenging Celtic.

Rangers showed signs that the gap to their Old Firm rivals Celtic is closing by beating them twice at home this season, but they certainly need a few more additions to the squad to really challenge for silverware.
