Rangers midfielder Jason Holt is a loan target for St Johnstone. According to The Scottish Sun, St Johnstone could launch a loan bid for Holt, who is out of favour at Rangers.
Steven Gerrard does not have a place for Holt in his plans. Another loan exit could be on the cards with clubs unlikely to pay money for him. He has one year remaining on his current Gers contract and this loan spell could take him to the end of his time at Ibrox.
Holt has been with Rangers since 2016, racking up 115 appearances with 15 goals and 19 assists. The 26-year-old has also spent time with Hearts, playing 71 times for them, and Sheffield United, where he made 17 appearances.
The ex-Scotland U21 midfielder was sent on loan to Fleetwood Town last season. He teamed up with Joey Barton in the third tier of English football and impressed. After 36 games and two goals, injury cut his season short.
Now, Holt could be on the move again. St Johnstone can offer him Premiership football and the chance to play regularly.
Holt is not in Gerrard’s plans and he needs to find himself a new home. St Johnstone could be an exciting project for him as they aim to break into the European spots.
He will become a free agent next summer and he needs to impress at St Johnstone to earn himself the best possible move. But it looks like his future lies away from Glasgow.
