Reliable French outlet Le 10 Sport have claimed that Ligue 1 side St. Etienne are interesting in landing Rangers goal machine Alfredo Morelos in the January transfer window, as the Colombian continues to bang in the goals.

Morelos, 23, has been in absolutely stunning form this season – building on what was a very good 2018-19 campaign. This season, the Colombia international has an incredible 18 goals in 23 league and cup outings – also laying on five assists.

The former HJK Helsinki striker scored a brace on Wednesday night as Rangers cruised past newly-promoted side Ross County at Dingwall, while Ryan Jack also netted twice. It is believed that St. Etienne have sent scouts to watch Morelos in recent weeks.

St. Etienne are said to be considering a signing up front in January, and Morelos is on their shortlist. He has a contract at Rangers until the summer of 2023, and St. Etienne are likely to find competition if they do enter the market for Morelos.

TBR’s view – Could Morelos swap Rangers to play in St. Etienne’s green?

Firstly, St. Etienne’s club-record transfer is just £9million, spent on attacker Lois Diony from Brest during 2017-18. To buy Morelos, St. Etienne would have to at least double that figure.

It is believed Morelos is likely to fetch a similar fee to that of Moussa Dembele, who left Celtic for £19.7million to join Lyon. But for St. Etienne to smash their record by doubling their current record seems unlikely.

Rangers will not want to sell Morelos – especially in January. So the chance of Morelos playing in green are almost zero.
