Spurs could reportedly struggle to sign Serie A defender and Pierluigi Gollini’s teammate Cristian Romero.
According to Sky Sports News, Atalanta have placed a ‘sizeable valuation’ on the 23-year-old Argentine defender.
The Italian club could demand as much as £39m for the centre-back. Spurs are just one of the sides keen on Romero.

Tottenham are keen to sign a centre-back this summer. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jules Kounde are also targets for Spurs. Yet the north London side are yet to confirm a signature for any defender this window.
Indeed, Romero could be an excellent addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. The defender enjoyed a breakout year with Atalanta last campaign. The former Juventus star was named Serie A’ Best Defender for the 2020/21 season.
However, the £39m price tag could be a sticking point for Spurs. As figures from Transfermarkt show, Romero would become Tottenham’s second-most expensive signing in club history if Daniel Levy was to make a move.

With the club appointing Fabio Paratici this summer, Spurs could be able to negotiate a cheap transfer fee with Atalanta for Romero.
But, with Tottenham already taking the Serie A side’s starting goalkeeper, they might be reluctant to also let go of their best performing centre-back last season.
