Spurs want West Ham United defender Issa Diop, according to a report from the Daily Mirror (5/1; page 47).

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to bolster his options at centre-back this month. It is claimed that his top target is Milan Skriniar, but a January move is unlikely.

And that has prompted the Tottenham boss to look elsewhere in the Premier League. According to the Daily Mirror (5/1; page 47), Spurs want West Ham ace Diop.

And it appears that the Hammers are open to sanctioning the Frenchman’s departure. The report claims that the Irons want around £18 million for the 23-year-old.

Diop has been a peripheral figure for David Moyes’s side this season. He has made just three starts in the Premier League. And it now appears that he is behind Craig Dawson in the pecking order at the London Stadium.

Spurs want West Ham star Mourinho once labelled a ‘monster’

It may surprise some that Tottenham reportedly want Diop this month. He has not enjoyed the best season at the London Stadium.

However, it does appear that Mourinho has been an admirer for some-time. The Portuguese lauded Diop for producing a ‘fantastic’ display back when West Ham faced his Manchester United side in 2018. He went on to describe Diop as a ‘monster’ (via London Evening Standard).

With that performance in mind, he may now feel that the opportunity to bring him into his squad for around £18 million is just too good to turn down.
