Report: Spurs want Wahid Faghir; Leicester have already had bid rejected

Tottenham Hotspur have joined Leicester City in the race to sign Wahid Faghir, with the Sunday Mirror (28/3; page 75) reporting that the Foxes have already had a £1 million bid rejected for the teenage striker.

Faghir is already earning a big reputation. He was included in UEFA’s 50 for the future list for 2021, with the list making note of his ‘next Zlatan’ nickname.

The nickname appears to have come from Steen Thychosen, who was Vejle’s head of youth when the 17-year-old joined the Danish club (via club’s official website).

Faghir has scored five goals in the top flight this year. He has also provided two assists in the side’s first year back at the highest level.

And his form is not going unnoticed. The Sunday Mirror (28/3; page 75) reports that Spurs are interested in the forward, as are Leicester and Ajax.

In fact, the report notes that the Foxes have had a seven-figure bid rejected. It is also claimed in the report that Faghir wants to be playing abroad in the next year and dreams of playing for Real Madrid.

TBR View: Spurs fans may have reservations

If Faghir lives up to expectations, he could be a scary talent in years to come. But obviously, Spurs fans may have their reservations until he has proved himself on a bigger stage.

He is not the first teenager to be compared with a world-class player. Unfortunately, many have subsequently failed to live up to the hype.

For now though, it is surely fair to say that the stature of the clubs chasing Faghir’s signature highlights the enormous potential he has.
