Report: Spurs want Patrick Bamford as Leeds eye contract talks
Leeds United’s push to tie Patrick Bamford down to a fresh contract may have been done few favours with The Telegraph reporting that Spurs have their eye on the striker amid doubts over Harry Kane’s future.
Bamford goes into this campaign off the back of a brilliant first year in the Premier League at Elland Road.
He scored 17 times in the top flight. And many felt that he was extremely unlucky to miss out on the England squad for Euro 2020.
The 27-year-old silenced a lot of doubters with his form. And Leeds are now working to agree a new deal with the forward.
The Telegraph notes that his current terms expire next summer. And it is claimed that Tottenham are showing interest as they consider replacements for Kane.
Bamford surely better off staying at Leeds rather than moving to Spurs
Bamford – who earns £35,000-a-week – won a lot of plaudits last season. And rival fans seemed to be impressed by the way he adapted to life in the top flight.
He produced an outstanding display against Spurs when they visited Elland Road later on in the campaign.
However, replacing Kane is going to be a huge ask for any striker if the England captain leaves.
Bamford is in a strong position if he wants to go.
But surely, he would be forgiven for choosing to stay in Yorkshire. He is integral to Marcelo Bielsa’s plans and system. And he has won the fans over after some challenging spells.
Spurs are a huge club. And they are currently more likely to be able to offer European football.
But Leeds have progressed year on year under Bielsa. So Bamford may not feel that moving on is the right move for his career.
