Spurs could be set to beat West Ham to the signing of Brazilian midfielder, Igor Gomes, who has been impressing for Sao Paulo in recent times.

French publication Homme du Match claim that Spurs could be willing to pay £9m for the midfielder. Gomes, 22, has been compared to Kaka in his homeland and could well be open to a move.

And in a further boost for Spurs and Fabio Paratici, it’s suggested that Sao Paulo need to sell in order to get their own finances in order.

Gomes is known for his play from the middle of the park. Like so many of the Tottenham midfield targets this summer, he is well adept at driving from midfield and impacting things in the final third.

New Spurs boss Nuno Santo and his transfer supremo Paratici are looking to strengthen the ranks further in the window. The club have already made big signings, such as Cristian Romero, Bryan Gil, and Pierluigi Gollini.

West Ham are also credited with an interest in Gomes. However, it seems that Tottenham are looking to brush the Hammers aside here.

Cheaper option, but no less talented

Spurs are exploring some different markets this summer and it has to be said, Paratici is doing the business for Nuno Santo.

Obviously, Cristian Romero was a superb South American addition. But Gomes could be another, and on the cheap side of things as well.

At 22, he’s ample time to improve and learn the Premier League. And with the transfer window clock ticking down, Gomes could well be a hidden gem for a bargain fee.
