Report: Spurs target Lorenzo Pellegrini set for new Roma deal
Fabrizio Romano has told The Here We Go Podcast that Fabio Paratici is a fan of reported Spurs summer target Lorenzo Pellegrini, but the Roma star is set to sign a new contract with the Giallorossi.
Pellegrini was one of the central midfielders linked with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.
And it appeared that Spurs had a decent opportunity to try and bring the 25-year-old to the Premier League. Previous reports claimed that he had a release clause of around £25.9 million, with Tottenham keen.
Romano has confirmed on The Here We Go Podcast that he was linked with Spurs because Paratici is indeed a fan of the player.
Obviously, a move did not take place. And it now appears that Pellegrini is ready to commit his future to Roma.
Romano suggests that he is close to signing a new deal. Interestingly, the journalist added that the release clause is set to be removed.
Calciomercato has provided further information on his talks with Roma. They suggest that an announcement could come as early as tomorrow. And he is set to stay until 2026.
Spurs should continue to monitor Pellegrini as new Roma contract nears
Spurs do arguably need a new midfielder. Their issues were highlighted at the weekend as Nuno Espirito Santo played three holding options at Crystal Palace.
Pellegrini has been an outstanding servant for Roma. The club captain has scored 24 goals and provided 36 assists in Serie A. He has already scored twice in the top flight this term.
Spurs should continue to monitor him. Obviously, signing him will not be easy without a release clause.
But he is certainly worth keeping on the radar.
