Report: Spurs signing Cristian Romero pushed Messi out of Barcelona

Spanish publication Marca have claimed that Spurs signing Cristian Romero has directly impacted the developments between Barcelona and Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian legend is no longer a Barcelona player and the club confirmed last night that Messi will now move on from the Camp Nou.

It comes as Barcelona continue to struggle financially. La Liga rules have ensured no deal can be done for Messi, even at a huge drop in wages.

And now Marca have claimed that one of the initial reasons Messi was unhappy was due to the fact Barcelona have missed out on his international teammate, Cristian Romero.

The defender is set to sign for Tottenham today all being well, with Spurs paying over £40m for the Atalanta man.

It marks a stark turnaround in fortunes for the two clubs. In days gone by, it would be unheard of for Spurs to beat Barcelona to the punch. But, Fabio Paratici has done his business well this summer, and seemingly triggered a series of events at the Catalan club.

Impact

Talk about a big signing having an impact somewhere else. It seems very much like Messi wanted Romero in Barcelona.

But, Spurs have pushed hard for the deal and Barca have come nowhere near in all honesty. Their financial situation is dire, and the fact they’ve got that bad that Messi has left, tells its own story.

For Tottenham fans, they can be more excited about Romero. If Messi approves, then Spurs fans can be in sound thought they’ve got themselves a top player.
