Tottenham Hotspur are preparing an offer for James Ward-Prowse, the Telegraph say.
Offer being readied
The Southampton midfielder is said to be a long-term target of Tottenham.
He first emerged of interest when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, and Spurs have never really dropped their interest in the midfielder.
With Southampton sanctioning the sales of some key players this summer, Tottenham have now sensed an opportunity.
And they are now said to be willing to rival Aston Villa in the hunt for the England international.
Perfect Hojbjerg partner?
If Ward-Prowse was brought to Tottenham he could link back up with his old Saints teammate, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.
Ward-Prowse, who Mauricio Pochettino has previously called ‘perfect” (Sky), would offer Tottenham better technical skill in central areas, and he would also make them a far greater threat from set pieces.

If Spurs are to green light the transfer they will surely need to offload some fringe players, though.
At the moment Tottenham already have plenty of options to play in central midfielder, especially with Oliver Skipp emerging as a viable candidate to start.
And Spurs will surely need to offload the likes of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko before they can bring Ward-Prowse in.
