Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to sell Spurs academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters in the summer, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at Tottenham but to date has only made 24 appearances for the Spurs senior team since his impressive debut against Newcastle in August 2017 (Transfermarkt).

Walker-Peters has made five appearances this season for Tottenham (Transfermarkt) and just one since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as head coach at Spurs, despite the club’s lack of options at right-back.

Southampton won the race for his services until the end of the 2019-20 campaign as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s charges looked to climb further up into the top ten of the Premier League table, while there was also reported interest from Crystal Palace and Brighton.

Partly due to injury, Walker-Peters made just one appearance for the Saints prior to the football shutdown, playing 73 minutes against Burnley on 15 February.

According to Sky Sports, the player is “still in the mix” for a permanent switch to St Mary’s, with Tottenham prepared to sell him in the summer, even though no purchase option or obligation was included in his loan.

Walker-Peters struggled to get game time at Spurs under Pochettino but was fond of the Argentine’s coaching, telling the Southampton website in March: “I can’t really fault him. He gave me a platform to be where I am now, so he was great to work with.

In contrast, the full-back appeared to take a veiled dig at Jose Mourinho for not giving him a chance to prove himself, saying: “I think had (Pochettino) stayed, I’d still be at Tottenham.

“Mourinho comes in and I get to play one game, but I don’t really get an opportunity like I thought I would, in terms of two or three games rotating with Serge Aurier, but the manager has to make decisions. That was his decision, so that’s fine.”

Admittedly, Walker-Peters failed to break into Pochettino’s first team despite Spurs’ other right-backs not playing well, and although his spell at Southampton hasn’t gone well for reasons beyond his control, it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will give him another chance in the summer.
