Report: Spurs offered Serhiy Rebrov
More than 20 years after he joined Spurs as a player, Tuttomercatoweb has reported that Serhiy Rebrov has been offered to Tottenham as they continue their search for a new manager.
Of course, much of the talk on Thursday has surrounded Mauricio Pochettino.
The Athletic reported that talks had taken place with the Argentinian about a return to North London.
And it seems that he is not the only familiar face linked with the Spurs post.
Tuttomercatoweb reports that Daniel Levy is considering alternative options as they await a decision from Pochettino about coming back.
Interestingly, the report claims that Rebrov has been offered to Tottenham.
The 46-year-old is currently the boss of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
There is no indication in the report whether Spurs would have any interest in appointing Rebrov.
But it would surely be a huge surprise if Levy wanted to appoint the Ukrainian.
Rebrov not the kind of name Spurs fans would be happy with
Admittedly, Rebrov has enjoyed a lot of success in his managerial career. He won the league title and cup twice while with Dynamo Kiev.
He has since won three league titles in a row since arriving in Hungary.
Nevertheless, appointing the former Spurs striker would surely not go down too well with the fans – particularly when there are links with Pochettino lingering.
He is yet to manage in one of Europe’s major leagues. So convincing someone like Harry Kane that he is the right man to take the club forward would not be easy for Levy.
With Pochettino’s name cropping up in recent hours, it is clear that Levy needs to produce something special.
After a few weeks of waiting, Spurs fans are now seeing their team linked with some incredibly exciting names.
Rebrov has won trophies. Ferencvaros have doubled their tally of league titles this century during his time in charge.
But it is surely fair to say that there is only one returning figure Tottenham fans want right now – and Rebrov is not it.
